Leading with Competencies

CCSA’s Workforce Competencies Implementation Quick-Start Guide provides an efficient, step-by-step approach to integrating the workforce competencies in your organization. It is designed to help your organization get a jump-start on competency initiatives and showcases best practices from people already using the competency framework. This makes it easier for users to begin implementation.

The guide covers three key phases:

  1. Planning
  2. Implementation
  3. Assess and share back success

If you’re a professional in human resources, an organizational leader, a team leader or someone who has a direct role in implementation, this guide is for you.
Organizations planning on implementing the competencies or have begun implementing the competency framework are encouraged to email our team at competencies@ccsa.ca for questions or support.

Introduction to Competencies: Factsheet for Leaders is a tool that introduces healthcare leaders to the workplace competencies. It describes the tangible impact that the competencies can have on an organization by providing the foundation for various workforce management activities.

The factsheet defines the technical and behavioural competencies in the context of substance use health and mental health, offers an example of a multi-level technical competency and highlights specific examples of how organizations across various sectors can benefit from the competencies.

Review the factsheet to find out how the competencies are benefiting organizations that are using them and gain a broad overview of their impact in seven key areas:

  1. Values and Culture
  2. Managing Change
  3. Recruitment
  4. Learning and Development
  5. Performance Management
  6. Career Growth
  7. Needs Planning
